Australian Base-Long Tan-Nui Dat -Vung Tau Beach from Ho Chi Minh City - 1 Day

Overview

Long Tan – Nui Dat Battle Field – Vung Tau Beach (full day trip)

Suitable for Australians!

Discover why Long Tan is etched in ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) folklore. On August 18, 1966, D Company, 6 RAR—although heavily outnumbered—fought a large Viet Cong assault in a grueling battle. This is the trip to a former base and sees the Long Tan Cross, Long Phuoc Tunnels, and Horseshoe Hill.

Itinerary

You shall be picked up at your hotel and depart for the trip at 7:30 am. Visit the site of the former site of Australia’s Nui Dat Task Force Base (Nui Dat SAS Hill). Little remains of this camp except for the columns of the main gate could be in the close-up. The former runway is now a wide street in the local village and the old helipad is now a soccer field. A school established by the Australians is nearby. Followed drive past the location of the Horseshoe (access not permitted these days due to mining activity) to the Discourtesy Rubber Plantation. You will then visit the Long Tan Cross Memorial, a memorial raised by the Australians in August 1969 in memory of the great battle of Long Tan, before continuing on to the Long Phuoc Tunnels. Like other tunnels systems found in Vietnam, the Long Phuoc Tunnels go with meeting areas, first aid stations, and fighting pits. Your guide will brief you on how the occupation of Nui Dat required removing all inhabitants within 2.5 miles (4 km), therefore forcibly resettling the people of Long Tan and Long Phuoc.

From Long Tan, we shall head to the beach of Vung Tau. Have lunch with special local foods shall be served followed with a rest. Our next visit shall be to The Robert Taylor Museum Of Worldwide Arms – The weapon museum of a 70-year-old British man in Vietnam. The private collection consists of 2,500 items ranging from guns and swords to army uniforms dating back to between the 17th and 20th centuries. They originated from nations around the world including The UK, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, and the Netherlands. The collection visit will bring pleasure to visitors, and create focal points for Vung Tau. The museum will be a place where people can know more about the history, culture, and development of the world. In 2011, the Vietnam Records Book Center recognized the museum as the largest private arms museum in Vietnam.

We head back to HCMC in the afternoon and the Trip Ends.
